Many people
choose to limit carbohydrates and eat more protein to lose weight or
reduce their intake of refined sugar. Research has shown that diets
higher in protein can be effective in weight loss and can lead to
improved blood cholesterol levels. To keep fat and saturated fat intake
down, experts recommend choosing lean sources of protein, such as lean
pork.
In case you haven’t heard, pork is a great source of high-quality
protein with many cuts meeting the government guidelines for “lean” or
even “extra lean.” A 3-ounce serving of pork tenderloin has 24 grams of
high-quality protein, with 3 grams of fat and – of course – zero
carbohydrates. In addition to high quality lean protein, pork is also a
terrific source of several key nutrients.

Healthful weight control involves eating a variety of foods and getting
regular physical activity. Research studies show that a balanced diet
including lean protein sources can be a healthy way to lose and maintain
a healthy weight. By providing a feeling of fullness at meals and
reducing the urge to overeat later, lean pork can help you meet your
weight loss goals.
