Shows and Sales

The American Berkshire Association participates in four breeding stock shows a year, the Winter Type Conference,  Summer Type Conference,  World Pork Expo and National Barrow Show. 

2007 Shows and Sales

Winter/Southwest Type Conference

     The Winter Type Conference has been held in Plainview, Texas the past few years.  Boars and gilts farrowed July 1 and after along with bred gilts are eligible to show at the Winter Conference. 

Summer Type Conference

        In 2007 the Summer Conference will be held in Springfield, Illinois.  Boars and gilts farrowed December 1 and after are eligible to show, along with bred gilts farrowed May 1 and after.  The Team Purebred junior summer national is also held in conjunction with this event (see TEAM PUREBRED from our home page for more information).  In addition, the main fundraiser for the American Berkshire Foundation is held.

World Pork Expo

     The World Pork Expo is the leading event in the swine industry.  Held in Des Moines, Iowa eight breeds of swine participate in this international event.  Boars and gilts farrowed October 1 and after are eligible to at the Expo.  Bred gilts also are part of the show.  There is also a junior gilt and barrow show (see TEAM PUREBRED for more information).

National Barrow Show

    The tradition of swine shows was started with the National Barrow Show in Austin, Minnesota.  Boars and gilts farrowed February 1 and after, along with bred gilts are eligible to show.  There will also be a market hog show and junior barrow show (see TEAM PUREBRED for more information) at this year's 2005 National Barrow Show.
